Printify Review 2026: The Cheapest Print-on-Demand Platform (If You Do the Work)

This post may contain affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See our disclosure.

Printify is the print-on-demand platform we recommend most often to people who are starting on a budget, and it’s also the one that generates the most “wait, why did my shirt come out like that?” emails. Both things are true, and they come from the same design decision. Printify doesn’t print anything. It’s a marketplace of roughly 90 independent print shops, and you pick which one makes each product. That gets you the lowest base prices in the industry and the biggest catalog — and it makes quality your job, not theirs.

This review is checked against Printify’s current pricing and help pages as of September 2026, including the February Premium price change that most reviews online still haven’t caught up with. Our own store runs primarily on Printful, so where the two differ we’ll say which one we actually chose and why.

Short verdict: Printify is the best choice if margin and product variety matter more to you than hands-off consistency, and the free plan is the best zero-cost way to start print on demand right now. If you’d rather never think about which factory made your hoodie, read our Printful vs Printify comparison before you decide.

what printify actually is

Printify is the routing and storefront layer between your shop and a network of print providers — around 90 companies across 140-plus facilities on four continents, roughly half of them in the US. When you create a product, you pick the blank (say, a Bella+Canvas 3001 tee), then pick the provider who’ll print it. Each provider sets its own price, its own shipping rate, its own production time, and has its own rating from sellers. When an order comes in from your Etsy or Shopify store, Printify sends it to that provider, who prints it and ships it under your name.

Since late 2025, Printify and Printful have both been owned by the same parent company, FYUL. As of this writing they still run as completely separate platforms with separate accounts, catalogs, and pricing, and nothing about the merger has changed how you use either one day to day. The one visible effect so far is on pricing, which we’ll get to.

the catalog: biggest in the business

Printify’s own figure is 1,300-plus products, versus roughly 500 at Printful and a few hundred at Gelato. Because each product can be offered by several providers, the number of actual product-plus-printer combinations is far larger. The practical upshot: if you want an unusual item — pet bowls, car mats, jigsaw puzzles, ornaments in six shapes, a specific blank brand your customers ask for — Printify is where it’s most likely to exist.

Apparel covers the standard blanks (Bella+Canvas, Gildan, Comfort Colors, Next Level, Champion) plus all-over-print cut-and-sew items. Home goods, drinkware, wall art, accessories, and the pet category are all deeper than Printful’s. Where the catalog is thinner is premium consistency — the same Gildan 18500 hoodie may be available from eight providers at eight prices, and they will not all print it equally well.

what it costs in 2026

The platform itself is free. You pay per product, per order, at whatever price the provider you chose has set. There are three plans:

  • Free — $0 forever. Full catalog, up to 5 connected stores, standard product prices. This is the plan most people should start on.
  • Premium — $39/month, or $299/year (about $24.99/month). Up to 20% off most of the catalog, up to 33% off select new products, up to 10 stores, and complimentary access to Sellers Club Pro (30 days on monthly, a year on annual).
  • Enterprise — custom pricing, unlimited stores, a dedicated account manager. Not a beginner concern.

The number that matters: the monthly Premium price went from $29 to $39 on February 17, 2026, a 34% increase, while the annual price stayed at $299. Any review still quoting $29 is out of date. The effect is that annual billing is now dramatically better value — you save $169 a year over monthly — and Printify clearly wants you on it.

Is Premium worth it? Do the math on your own numbers rather than trusting “up to 20%.” If your average product costs $10 at base and the discount is a true 20%, you save $2 per order. On annual billing ($24.99/month) you break even at about 13 orders a month; on monthly billing ($39) it’s about 20. Below that, stay on Free. Above it, the annual plan pays for itself and everything after is margin — which is why sellers doing volume treat it as a no-brainer and beginners shouldn’t touch it yet. Our Etsy fee calculator will show you how much room you actually have.

real product prices (what you’ll actually pay)

Because prices vary by provider, Printify quotes ranges rather than a single number. Current ballparks, before shipping and before any Premium discount:

  • Bella+Canvas 3001 t-shirt: roughly $11–$15 depending on provider; the cheapest basic tees in the catalog start around $8, and under $6 with Premium.
  • Gildan 18500 hoodie: roughly $22–$30.
  • US shipping: economy from about $3.99 (4–8 days), standard from about $4.75, express from about $7.99 (2–3 days). Each provider sets its own, and additional items in the same order ship cheaper.

That tee range is the whole Printify story in one line. The low end undercuts everyone; the high end is the same as Printful. You don’t automatically get the cheap price — you get it by choosing the cheap provider, and then you find out whether the cheap provider is any good. Pull live prices from the dashboard before you set your own; they change, and they change by provider.

the features that matter (and the ones that don’t)

  • Printify Choice — instead of picking a provider yourself, you let Printify route each order to a vetted provider it considers best on price, location, and reliability. This is the closest thing Printify has to the “just handle it” experience, and it’s the setting we’d recommend for a first shop. You give up control; you get consistency and automatic re-routing if a provider is out of stock.
  • Printify Express — a 2–3 day delivery option on eligible US products. Useful for gifts and Q4; not compatible with branding options.
  • Pop-Up Store — a free, hosted storefront so you can sell without an Etsy shop or Shopify subscription. It’s basic (no blog, minimal SEO, Printify handles checkout and payouts) and it won’t bring you traffic, but for testing designs with an existing audience it costs nothing.
  • Branding — neck labels on around 30 apparel items ($0.44–$2.39 depending on provider) and packaging inserts ($0.15) from a handful of providers. No custom outer packaging. If you’re building a brand rather than a listing, this is the clearest gap versus Printful.
  • Design tools — a built-in editor with an AI image generator (limited daily uses) and background removal. Fine for text designs; for anything better, make the file elsewhere. Our design tools post covers the under-$30 stack we use, and the AI design workflow gets you to a print-ready file.
  • Printify Connect — a hosted order-status page and reprint/refund flow you can send customers to, so “where’s my order” emails handle themselves. Genuinely useful once you have volume.

integrations

Native connections to Etsy, Shopify, TikTok Shop (US), Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce, PrestaShop, and Big Cartel, plus an API. The Etsy and Shopify integrations are mature and the ones we’d trust; the WooCommerce one draws the most complaints in seller reviews. If you’re starting from nothing, Etsy plus Printify is the cheapest complete setup in print on demand: $0 for the platform, $0.20 per listing, and no monthly fee until you choose to add Premium.

where printify falls down

Every honest review of Printify lands on the same structural issue, so we’ll be direct about it: quality is only as good as the provider you picked. The same design on the same blank can come back excellent from one provider and washed-out from another. Printify shows you provider ratings and production times, and those help, but a rating is an average and your order is one print. The fix is boring and non-negotiable: order a sample of every product from the provider you intend to use before you list it. That’s $12 and a week. It’s the price of using Printify.

The other recurring complaints, all of which we’d agree with:

  • Three-party support. When something goes wrong, Printify support mediates between you and the provider. It works, but it’s slower than a company that printed the thing itself, and it gets slower in Q4.
  • Shipping and print areas aren’t standardized. Switching a product from one provider to another can change the price, the shipping, and even the printable area, which means re-checking your design.
  • Provider selection eats time. Comparing eight providers for each of twenty products is real work. Printify Choice exists precisely because of this.
  • Branding is thin. Covered above. If custom packaging matters, this is the wrong platform.
  • The monthly price hike. A 34% increase with no new core benefit beyond a coaching-community trial is the kind of move a company makes when it knows its users are locked in. Budget for annual billing or stay free.

Ratings for what they’re worth: about 4.5/5 on Trustpilot, 4.6/5 on G2, 4.7/5 on the Shopify App Store. High, and the one-star reviews read exactly like the provider-consistency problem above.

why our own store isn’t on printify (and when it would be)

Full disclosure: Underfoot & Co, our build-in-public Etsy shop, runs primarily on Printful. The reason is the one above — with ten listings and no sales history, we wanted one quality standard and zero provider research while we figured out what sells. That’s a beginner’s reason, and it costs us a few dollars a unit in margin.

The moment that flips is the moment a product proves itself. Once a design is selling steadily, moving it to a vetted Printify provider (sample first) and pocketing the difference is exactly what experienced sellers do, and it’s why so many run both platforms side by side: Printful for the products where consistency matters, Printify for the volume sellers and the products Printful doesn’t make. There’s no rule that says you have to pick one.

who should use printify

Use it if:

  • You’re starting with no budget. The free plan plus Etsy is the cheapest legitimate way into print on demand.
  • Margin is your priority and you’re willing to sample products to protect it.
  • You want products nobody else carries — pet gear, home goods, niche accessories, specific blanks.
  • You sell internationally and want to pick providers near your customers rather than shipping everything from one country.
  • You’re doing 13-plus orders a month and can put Premium on annual billing.

Skip it if:

  • You want to never think about who printed the order. Printful’s in-house model is built for you.
  • Custom packaging and unboxing are part of your brand.
  • You won’t order samples. Seriously — on this platform that isn’t optional.

the verdict

Printify is the best value in print on demand and the one that asks the most of you. The catalog is unmatched, the base prices are the lowest of any mainstream platform, the free plan is real, and Printify Choice has taken most of the pain out of provider selection for people who don’t want to do it by hand. The trade is that you own quality control. If you’re willing to sample what you sell, that trade is very much in your favor.

Start on the free plan, connect it to Etsy, list ten products through Printify Choice, and order one sample of your best design. That’s a weekend and about $15, and you’ll know more than any review can tell you.
