Etsy Fees in 2026, Explained (With a Simple Profit Calculator)

Ask Etsy what it charges and you get a fee list. Ask a seller and you get a sigh. The truth is in the middle: on a typical US order, Etsy takes about 11% all-in — which is neither the “20 cents to list!” fantasy nor the “Etsy takes half my money” Reddit version.

Here is every fee that exists in 2026, what it actually adds up to on a real order, a calculator that does the math for your numbers, and the handful of legitimate ways to pay less. No fee is hidden once you know where to look; Etsy just spreads them across enough pages that almost nobody assembles the full picture.

every etsy fee in 2026

Listing fee — $0.20 per listing, per 4 months. Charged when you publish, again when the listing auto-renews four months later, and again for each additional quantity sold in one order (sell 3 mugs in one order = your original 20¢ covered the first, plus 40¢ for the other two). A listing that never sells costs you 60¢ a year to keep alive.

Transaction fee — 6.5% of the order. The big one. Applies to the item price plus whatever the buyer pays for shipping and gift wrap — Etsy charges its percentage on shipping too, which surprises everyone once. (US sales tax is excluded.)

Payment processing — 3% + $0.25 per order (US). Etsy Payments is mandatory, so this isn’t optional. Rates differ by country — sellers in much of Europe pay around 4%, and a few countries pay more.

Shop setup fee — one-time, typically $15 (US). Non-refundable, charged when you open. New since 2024; Etsy shows your exact amount at signup. Covered in our complete guide to starting an Etsy shop.

Offsite Ads — 15% of an order, only when Etsy’s ads brought the buyer. Etsy runs ads for your products on Google, Facebook, Instagram and elsewhere; when a buyer clicks one and orders within 30 days, you pay 15%. Under $10,000 in trailing-12-month sales you can opt out entirely. Over $10,000, participation is mandatory forever — but your rate drops to 12%, and the fee is capped at $100 per order.

Currency conversion — 2.5%, only if you list in a currency different from your payout currency. Easy to avoid: don’t do that.

Regulatory operating fees — country-dependent. US sellers don’t pay one. The UK, France, and several other countries add a small percentage to each order (the UK’s rose to 0.48% in June 2026, as reported by sellers — check your local rate in Shop Manager).

Subscriptions — all optional. Etsy Plus is $10/month (you get $8 of it back in listing and ad credits, so it’s really $2 for a few cosmetic perks). Pattern, Etsy’s separate-website builder, is $15/month. Neither makes sense for a brand-new shop.

what that adds up to on a real order

Take a $24.99 t-shirt where the buyer also pays $4.99 shipping — a $29.98 order.

Transaction fee: 6.5% × $29.98 = $1.95. Payment processing: 3% × $29.98 + $0.25 = $1.15. Listing fee: $0.20. Etsy’s total: $3.30 — right at 11% of the order.

If that same order came through an Offsite Ad, add 15% ($4.50) and Etsy’s cut jumps to $7.80 — 26% of the order. That one line is why sellers under $10k should think hard before opting in, and why the fee feels brutal even though it only hits ad-driven orders.

Now the version nobody runs: the same shirt with “free” shipping at $24.99. Your revenue drops $4.99, your fees only drop about 47¢, so you keep roughly $4.50 less on the exact same sale. Free shipping can still be worth testing — Etsy has favored it in US search results at times — but it is a marketing cost you chose, not a fee Etsy took. Do this math before you copy what big shops do.

run your own numbers

Put in your price, what you charge for shipping, and what the item costs you to make or source — the calculator breaks out every Etsy fee and what you actually keep. It uses the current US rates from this post.

YOU KEEP
Uses current US rates — 6.5% transaction on item + shipping, 3% + $0.25 payment processing, $0.20 listing fee, optional 15% Offsite Ads. Verified August 2026. Sales tax excluded; your card fees, packaging, or supplier shipping belong in “your cost.”

If the calculator doesn’t load on your device, the worked example above covers the same math — and every rate it uses is listed in the fee section.

how to actually pay less

Turn on Share & Save. Shop Manager → Marketing. Any order that arrives through a link you shared gets 4% of the order refunded to you instantly. You’re already sharing your shop on social — this makes Etsy pay you for it. It’s the only fee reducer with zero downside.

Opt out of Offsite Ads while you’re small. Under $10k/year it’s your choice, and a 15% fee on thin beginner margins rarely pays for itself. Revisit once your margins can carry it — you’ll be brought in automatically at $10k anyway, at the nicer 12% rate.

Don’t subscribe to anything yet. Etsy Plus at $10/month buys credits a five-listing shop can’t use.

List in your payout currency and the 2.5% conversion fee never exists.

Don’t obsess over listing fees. At 60¢ per listing per year, they’re the smallest number on this page — cull listings because they’re weak, not to save cents. Spend that energy on titles and tags that rank instead; one listing that actually sells out-earns every fee trick combined.

print-on-demand sellers: your real margin

If you run print on demand, Etsy’s ~11% is only half your cost structure — your supplier’s base price is the other half. Same $24.99 shirt, buyer pays shipping: $29.98 revenue − $3.30 Etsy − about $16.70 for a Printful shirt plus its shipping (typical, rounded — varies by product and destination) = roughly $10 kept. Offer free shipping and that drops to about $5.50. Neither number is a tragedy; both need to be chosen, not discovered.

That’s also the argument for researching price points before you list — a tool like EverBee shows what comparable listings actually charge and sell, so you’re not guessing your margin into existence. If you’re comparing suppliers on base cost, start with our honest POD company roundup.

We publish our own numbers — every fee included, flops included — in our build-in-public series, if you want to see what these percentages look like on a real new shop instead of a hypothetical.

quick answers

Do fees come out of my sale or my bank account? Your sale. Etsy nets fees against your payment account balance; the card on file only gets charged if your balance can’t cover the bill. What does Etsy charge if I never sell anything? Just listing renewals — 60¢ per listing per year after the initial 20¢. Is the setup fee ever refunded? No. Does the 6.5% really apply to shipping? Yes. Price accordingly.

Fee amounts verified in August 2026 against Etsy’s current Fees & Payments Policy and Etsy Payments policy. Etsy adjusts fees quietly and by country — your Shop Manager’s fee pages are always the source of truth. How we started the shop itself: the complete Etsy setup guide.
