How To Connect Printful With Shopify in 2026 (5-Minute Setup)

Connecting Printful to Shopify takes about five minutes, costs nothing, and turns your store into a hands-off print-on-demand machine: a customer orders, Printful prints and ships it, and you keep the margin without touching a thing.

Here’s the current 2026 setup, step by step, plus the settings that trip up beginners — shipping, taxes, and samples.

Why Printful + Shopify?

Shopify gives you a store you fully own; Printful gives you 500+ products printed in its own facilities across the US, Mexico, Canada, Europe, and beyond, shipped from the center nearest your customer. The integration is official, deep, and fully automated — orders, tracking numbers, and inventory sync without any manual work. Both are free to start: Shopify’s promo is a 3-day free trial then $1/month for three months, and Printful has no subscription — you pay per item only when something sells.

(Undecided between providers? Printify connects to Shopify the same way — see our Printful vs Printify 2026 comparison. Short version: Printful for quality consistency and branding, Printify for lower unit costs.)

Step 1: Have Both Accounts Ready

Step 2: Install the Printful App

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Apps → search the Shopify App Store for “Printful”.
  2. Click Install on the official “Printful: Print on Demand” app (free).
  3. Log in with your Printful account when prompted and click to approve the connection.

That’s it — your store now appears under Stores in your Printful dashboard. (You can also start from the Printful side: Dashboard → Stores → Choose platform → Shopify. Same result.)

Step 3: Add Your First Product

  1. In Printful: Stores → Add product. Pick a product — a unisex tee is the classic start.
  2. Upload your design in the Design Maker, position it, and choose your mockups.
  3. Write the title and description (Shopify Magic can draft these for you inside Shopify).
  4. Set your retail price — aim for a $10–15 margin on shirts after Printful’s cost.
  5. Click Submit to store. The product syncs to Shopify with images and variants; publish it from your Shopify admin.

Step 4: The Settings Beginners Miss

  • Shipping: in Printful → Settings → Shipping, choose flat rates (simplest — e.g., US t-shirt shipping is $3.99 first item, $1.90 each additional) or let Printful configure live rates if your Shopify plan supports carrier-calculated shipping. Then make sure Shopify’s shipping profiles match — mismatched shipping is the #1 source of surprise losses.
  • Payments: set up Shopify Payments so you’re not paying the extra third-party processor fee.
  • Billing: add a card to Printful — they charge you production cost when an order comes in, then your customer’s payment lands in Shopify. Keep a small buffer.
  • Taxes: in Shopify, enable automatic tax collection for regions where you have obligations — and when in doubt, ask an accountant.

Step 5: Order a Sample, Then Launch

Before promoting anything, order a sample of your best design (Printful gives sample discounts). You’ll verify quality, and the photos you take become your best product images and social content. Then connect the free TikTok app in Shopify to sell through TikTok Shop — the strongest free traffic channel for new POD brands right now.

Quick FAQ

How much does the integration cost?

Nothing. The app is free, Printful is free, and you pay Printful per item only when a sale happens. Your only fixed cost is the Shopify plan ($1/month for the first three months on the current promo, then $39/month for Basic — or $29/month billed yearly).

Who handles shipping problems and returns?

Printful reprints or refunds anything damaged or misprinted. Customer questions come to you first (it’s your store), and you coordinate with Printful support behind the scenes.

Can I use Printful and Printify on the same store?

Yes — many sellers do, choosing per product based on price and quality. Both apps can run side by side.
