TaskRabbit is an online platform where you can hire somebody to get everyday jobs and chores done. Jobs are completed by Taskers and all aspects of the task are organised via the mobile app, including hourly rate and instructions. You can start earning money by making yourself available to complete tasks for people as a Tasker.

Now you don’t need to be a tradesman or have any specific skills to start making money on TaskRabbit. Its a great way to earn money between jobs, at weekends or to top up your normal salary/income. The most popular task categories on TaskRabbit are:

My Experience As A Tasker

I decided to register for TaskRabbit as a tasker and try the service out for myself. Overall it was a good experience and quite enjoyable as well, I have detailed my experiences below. Funnily enough I ended up delivering a cake to a University campus and helping with an office furniture move lasting 2 days.

1. Register On TaskRabbit

Now the first thing you need to do is register as a Tasker on the website and download the Mobile App. Just to warn you the registration is very in depth and you need to supply lots of information and your ID. Furthermore they required a criminal record background check, known as a CRB check in the United Kingdom. Hence it took me 14 days to get all the way through the application process until my account was active.

2. Complete Your Tasker Profile

One of the most important parts of setting up is completing your profile, this is your chance to sell yourself. It’s also your chance to choose what jobs you can complete for people and at what rate. Don’t worry if you are not an electrician or plumber, you can help people move home/office, do local deliveries, shopping, cleaning and many more.

Most importantly add a good quality photo, this will help you stand out and you are more likely to get hired.

3. Make Yourself Available

Once I had completed my registration and profile I started to make myself available via the Android App. There are two things you need to do, firstly what dates you are available to work in the coming weeks. For example I was able to set not only what days I was available but exactly what time slots each day as well. The second thing you can do is make yourself available for same day bookings. This can only be activated on the actual day and you have to respond very quickly to requests.

4. Task Requests

It took me a few weeks to get my first task, I initially set my day rate too high and ended up lowering it. Every “Tasker” has a rating based on past jobs, so as a new Tasker you may need to lower your prices while building up your score.

My first task request really cracked me up, somebody wanted me to pickup a cake from a Chinese bakery and hand deliver it to a student at a local university. It was very straightforward I confirmed the details using the app and I completed the task with no issues. I had to pay for the cake in cash and charge this cost back to the client via the app. As long as you have followed all the rules TaskRabbit cover you against fraud but I had no problems.

My second task was to help move some office furniture from the bottom floor to the top floor. First of all I confirmed the details via the app and also requested they pay my parking in the city center. They needed a large amount of boxes and furniture moving from the bottom floor to the fifth floor. They provided a trolley and I could use the lift, which I had checked beforehand using the chat. It was very hard physical work but I really enjoyed basically getting paid to exercise and I could have my earphones in as well. I ended up doing two full days for them and completed the job in full on my own.

Summary

I was very impressed with how the whole system functioned and will keep using TaskRabbit to earn some extra money. Although I didn’t get hired as quickly as I would of liked because it takes time to build up your rating. This may not work for in rural areas, you will probably need a city center close by. However its a great way to earn some extra income if you are a freelancer or just starting your own business. Good luck and get tasking!
