Etsy Trending Products 2026: How To Find What’s Actually Selling

The sellers who win on Etsy aren’t guessing — they’re reading demand signals the platform hands out for free, then listing ahead of the spike. Here’s exactly how to find trending products and top sellers on Etsy in 2026, what’s trending right now according to Etsy’s own data, and the traps to skip.

Start with Etsy’s own trend tool (new-ish, and free)

The biggest change since we first wrote this guide: Etsy now shows you its own search data. Marketplace Insights, built into Shop Manager (launched in beta in late 2025), reveals what buyers actually type into Etsy, roughly how often, and how many listings compete for it. You get 15 free searches a week — unlimited on Etsy Plus.

That’s the research third-party tools used to charge for, straight from the source. Pair it with Etsy’s Search Visibility Dashboard and your shop Stats, and a beginner has a genuinely capable free research stack. One caution, straight from Etsy: the tool shows what buyers search “even if something is not allowed on Etsy” — checking that an idea is legal and policy-compliant is on you.

What’s trending on Etsy right now (from Etsy’s own 2026 report)

Etsy publishes seasonal trend reports with real search data in the Seller Handbook. Highlights from the Spring/Summer 2026 report — with the print-on-demand angle for each:

  • Wall art is surging: searches for wall art decor up 110%, gallery prints up 80%, abstract art up 38%. This is the most POD-friendly trend on the list — posters and canvas prints are core print-on-demand products.
  • Whimsy sells: polka dot phone cases up 835%, whimsical jewelry up 84%. Phone cases are a standard POD item; playful patterns are easy AI-assisted design territory.
  • The analog revival: memory journals up 189%, journal charms up 395%. Notebook and journal covers exist in POD catalogs too.
  • “Little treat” culture: small just-because gifts are booming — 39% of Gen Z buyers celebrated “just because” moments. Stickers and mugs live here.
  • Weddings went botanical and gothic: bridesmaid baskets up 4,200%, wildflower wedding signs doubled, stained glass wedding signs up 200%. Wedding signage and gifts are strong POD categories.
  • Handmade texture is a reaction to AI: embroidered and crochet goods exploded (embroidered straw bag searches up 20,000%). Worth knowing even where POD can’t compete — buyers are rewarding a handmade look, which smart POD design can echo.

Etsy also named a 2026 Color of the Year — Patina Blue, an aged-copper blue-green (“blue copper” searches tripled) — and a first-ever Texture of the Year, washed linen. Colorways are free design direction: nobody owns a color.

Free ways to spot trends (no tools required)

  • The search bar itself. Open Etsy in an incognito window, type a seed word (“nurse,” “disc golf,” “patina blue”), and read the autocomplete — those are real buyer searches, roughly ordered by popularity.
  • Etsy’s curated pages. The gift hubs and editor lists (like the Top 100 Gifts collections) show what Etsy’s own merchandisers are betting on.
  • Listing badges. Bestseller means sustained sales over roughly the past six months; Popular now flags a short-term surge; “in X carts” is live buyer interest. Etsy doesn’t publish exact thresholds, but as browsing signals they’re gold: search your niche, sort by top reviews, and study what badge-holders have in common. (Don’t confuse Star Seller with these — that one measures customer service, not demand.)
  • Google Trends. Free sanity-check for whether a niche is rising, falling, or seasonal outside Etsy’s walls.

Trends are the spice — evergreen is the meal

A +4,200% spike is exciting, but spikes crowd fast and fade faster. The durable Etsy money is in evergreen demand — personalized gifts, wall art, niche pride (jobs, hobbies, pets), and the calendar’s reliable drumbeat: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduation, weddings, holidays. The smart portfolio is mostly evergreen designs in a niche you know, plus a few trend plays listed ahead of the seasonal spike. Etsy’s own advice matches: use trend terms in your tags and descriptions, but stay true to what your shop is about.

Two traps that end shops

  • Trending phrases are often trademarked. Viral sayings get USPTO filings fast, and fan art of shows or celebrities is an IP minefield no matter how many people search for it. Run every phrase through a trademark check (Merch Titans’ free trademark checker is a quick first pass; uspto.gov is the source of truth) before you upload.
  • Inspiration isn’t duplication. Study bestsellers for niche, price point, and style — then make something original. Copying a design violates Etsy’s IP policy and Creativity Standards, and it’s the fastest route to takedowns and suspension.

Turn a trend into a listing this week

  1. Pick one niche you know, and one trend from the list above that overlaps it.
  2. Check the phrase in Marketplace Insights (search volume + competition) and the trademark checker.
  3. Create 3–5 original designs — AI tools like Kittl or Canva make this an evening, not a week.
  4. List them with trend terms in your tags, via Printful or Printify fulfillment — our Etsy + Printful step-by-step guide covers the whole setup, fees and all.
  5. Watch your Stats, keep what gets clicks, replace what doesn’t.
